The Launch Of A New Idea

Thinker

So recently I had a lot of time on my hands (between running around frantically to different institutions, shops and places to get some things done before the semester starts) to do some brainstorming on how to improve my blog.

Yes, it sounds cheesy, but I genuinely try my best to push out some quality texts on a regular basis. Jotting down ideas for blog posts, drawing inspiration from all kinds of resources and looking for appealing pictures until it drives me nuts, are only a few of the activities I do to create posts which are hopefully worth reading. Still, there was an issue that did bother me a little when I read through several old posts — there’s no real theme! No red thread which guides the reader along and catches the attention of potential ones. My itsy-bitsy problem is that there is no way I could ever narrow down the topics I write about. And why should I? I don’t want to be just another food, fashion or technology blog — there are already plenty! If you ask me, I wouldn’t really contribute something spectacularly great to the world if I’d join some blogging niche.

Yet, I have the nagging feeling that this blog is all over the place. It jumps from trips to hobbies to …bubble tea? Trying to write topics in a certain order doesn’t make any sense either as sometimes I have this sudden urge to write specifically about one topic and one topic only!

That’s why I decided to shake things a little up and introduce a new series called: (insert name of current month) favorites! Basically, the idea behind the concept is to share with you guys which things I had a massive crush on. Writing the word “things” is actually done on purpose in this case because the range will be so broad! To establish some order, I’ll always include a number of different categories as it is hard to say whether you stumble over the best read of the century in November or the most scrumptious recipe for chocolate cake.

Getting Organized

946crayons

When I was small I used to love shopping for school stuff with my parents. Strolling through book and craft stores, while we ticked off every single item of the shopping list with a little triumphant fist strike into the air, was something I really enjoyed. And afterwards, when school started, the teachers gave us the curriculum for the first week. Each day we took all the materials we would need with us and started labeling exercise books, homework books, pens and boxes – I was in complete bliss.

Nowadays, it hasn’t changed much. The nineteen-year-old me still enjoys walking through shops, rummaging in boxes and spending way too much time in each sector. Yes, I like to have all possible kinds of pens, pencils and markers in all thinkable color variations with me at all times (un)necessary. Also, having more than one calendar or notebook can never harm.

Do not mistake me for a snob, basically anything with some cute animal, pattern or a hint of cuteness will do for me. If anything screams adorableness at me, you can be sure that I’ll take it when I see it. Aside from that, I’m the kind of person who believes that writing good texts also depends on your writing tool (Of course I also have a specific eraser and a Wite-Out as even the greatest pen cannot prevent you from making spelling mistakes).

A few things I need to make my organized, geeky self feel satisfied:

an organizer

a notebook

a good writing pen

markers

a big pencil case

a huge, versatile bag

an alarm clock (that's a good distance away when it rings in the morning)

a lunchbox (for homemade bentos, we'll see if that ever happens)

The dirtbird cleans up

Cleaning
Okay, so the summer break is almost over which means you’re life as well. Say farewell to liberty and freedom because you won’t see those two guys for a long time my friend. Now you should switch from  lazy bum modus to…well lazy student modus (or something like that). Yay motivation!

Just to let you know my room is a complete mess! I cleaned it up right at the start of the summer break, but now it looks like there was a typhoon. Currently, I’m trying to put books in the right order, empty my desk and above all, get rid of all possible items which I, with a certainty of 90%, won’t need or make good use of in the next 50 years.

However, this turns out to be quite a difficult task for me as I’m what people would call a saver. Recently, I just filled a whole box with childhood junk. I’m that kind of person who likes to hold on to memories and this works best if you keep all the stuff that helps you remember. Dwelling in the past, being nostalgic- terms I’m very familiar with. Not that I’m not forward thinking or future-oriented, trust me, my mind is always at least one week ahead, but I like to reflect on the past once in a while, especially focusing on mistakes I might’ve made.

That’s not exactly positive thinking and any shrink would slap me now, but what can I do? Saying goodbye always makes me sad, but whenever I filled another box with odds and ends, there isn’t only space in my room again. It’s a process to clear your mind, as well as a new beginning.

Wow, how poetic my explanation on tidying up just turned out.
